Hi, I’m Sarah! This sexy hunk of beef in the picture with me is the world’s most amazing husband, Trent! We are celebrating our fifth anniversary this year, but have been together for eight. He is easily the best and most important thing in my life.
Sarah Makes Sense is a blog that focuses on personal finance, traveling, and mental health. I try to combine the three in a way that helps you to live a satisfying and rewarding lifestyle.
Currently, I am finishing up my Master’s of Social Work degree and I am less than a semester away from becoming a licensed clinical social worker (mental health therapist). I have lived with major depressive disorder, generalized anxiety disorder, and OCD my entire life. In 2016, I was hospitalized for two weeks for being suicidal. That was the hardest thing I have ever gone through in my entire life. While my mental health will always be a lifelong battle, within one year of my hospitalization, I was able to overcome the worst of my illness. After, I completely turned my life around and changed it for the better. I talk about my mental health a lot and very openly.
I guess you could say one of my OCD “quirks”, along with many other diagnosed, would be counting. As a result, I realized my love for personal finance. I discovered that one of the only ways I could calm my mind was if I could write out a budget on paper and count to see how long it would take to pay off debt. I would do that over and over again, usually 10-15 times a day every day (welcome to the compulsive part of OCD). This was motivation to see how long it would take to pay off debt. It became a challenge for us to get rid of it more quickly. I guess that it paid off (pun intended) when we successfully got ourselves out of $20,000 worth of debt and saved over $8,000 in a year.
Trent and I have an amazing marriage that God has completely taken over. We are living our dream come true, even if we are just sitting at home. God has given us many opportunities and we take every chance we can to take advantage of them. Traveling is one of our favorite ways to bond. Our most memorable experience so far has to be camping in the Sahara Desert! It was amazing! When we aren’t traveling, we are watching The Office or Friends on Netflix and going on nice long walks in the humid, gnat-infested, swampy south Georgia. How romantic! Ha!
Anyways, if you’re still here, thank you for taking the time to check out Sarah Makes Sense. Please feel free to contact me with any questions, and I hope you enjoy the blog!
